MikeT2005 ::: Favorites LOL. But the former two make an aweful mess. 07-07-07 15:22:05 __________________________________________________
AlanCom1 ::: Favorites Mike, if you talk about able bodied people, I disagree with you. There are so many way to commit suicide. I am only worried about the fact that the govt is so opposed to euthanasia for really old or terminally ill people. I think euthanasia should be legal (for old/ ill people). Let able people shoot themselves or throw off a tall building, or drink poison. No need to despair, just persevere. 07-07-07 13:56:14 __________________________________________________
MikeT2005 ::: Favorites Yeah the refusal to allow terminally ill people to go peacefully and painless is simply due to Christian Zealots as you put it. But I'm referring to suicide as a whole across society. There are, unfortunately, some people in society who are so down trodden and trapped, and at a high risk of suicide. In a Humanistic point of view, if the obstacles they face are insurmountable, then clearly depression ensues. 07-07-07 13:50:49 __________________________________________________
AlanCom1 ::: Favorites Mike, I disagree with you here. I thought that you were referring to people that are terminally ill and want to kill themselves. They can't work. However, the idea that sick people spend money it is true, but the money would have been spent by other people on other goods or services. 07-07-07 11:27:32 __________________________________________________
MikeT2005 ::: Favorites I'm not specifically talking about the US. But you do make a point which is entirely true. However, you don't make money giving people nothing - a dead person isn't buying cell phones, cars or air-conditioning. All these things bring benefits, clearly, but the major benefits go to top. The main people who would suicide are the working poor - those with no means of upwards mobility. If many of them suicided then a source of cheap labour would gradually fade away. 07-07-07 10:59:28 __________________________________________________
AlanCom1 ::: Favorites Are you really that silly as you pretend to be? The govt wants a productive economy for the few? At this moment in US there about 200mil cell phones, about the same number of cars, air conditioning and all. Is this how economy benefits the few? Never mind that nobody had that 50 years ago. The govt are against euthanasia because of the stupidity of christian zealots in the country. 07-07-07 10:38:41 __________________________________________________
MikeT2005 ::: Favorites I honestly think governments are against assisted suicide and euthanasia due to the social and economic impact it would have. Firstly, governments can spend thousands educating an individual. I believe they want that back. Add to that the cost of lost productivity due to funerals and morning, and one less worker in society, they don't like allowing people a right to die. It's not about caring for other human beings, it's about providing a productive economy for a privilaged few to benefit from. 07-07-07 10:23:20 __________________________________________________ |
