The three of you ein125, shaunush, hosdurga don't know anything about drumming. I haen't picked up a pair of sticks in 6 years and I would be happy to challange all three of you to a drum off. Rent a hall in New York City somewhere this october and I will be there to do it. Sell tickets, whatever. I saw Buddy many times. You have no f#!@*() idea what you are talking about.

Sad. Buddy was just a few months away from his illness and death at this concert. The Jazz world lost a true Genius. I sure miss going to his concerts. In person, he was absolutely shocking.

Buddy didn't have drums at home. True, but, have you ever heard of a practice pad?

My friend, If you were drummer..or a true musicphile..you would realise that what you said is ignorance. Sorry, but Buddy did WAAAAY more than just mainly single strokes..he was creative to a fault and put strokes together in a way with finesse and grace and power and speed and syncopation that NO ONE had ever done so well. He did EVERYTHING. If you want to see the BEST DOUBLE STROKES..look on tube at Buddy Rich 78 video from the Hague.

He was away from home about 300 days a year...playing every night or every other/few nights..so why would he need a set at home anyway? Uneccessary as he got MORE than more than enough playing/practice during gigs..they just sharpened what he already had. A set at home would be...redundant. he needed time off like anyone else.

Wow ludwig222, thanks for posting this! I was the bass player on that gig. And it was my last gig with the Dorsey Orch. Went straight to the airport after we finished.
